Learning how to make a dog sit is one of the first things many dog owners want to do. Teaching your dog to sit is a vital skill that you need to learn and the sooner you do the better.
To teach a dog how to sit you will need a treat he likes, it can be anything but make sure it's not too big and can be easily hidden in your hand. What you want to do is take the treat in your hand between your thumb and index finger and move it around the nose of the dog. You will see that your dog will follow the treat with its head and body. Try holding it low, your dog will lower its body, hold it high your dog will stand up on its hind legs. To make your dog sit, hold the treat over it's nose, not too high not too low while saying 'sit', the dog will naturally sit. Once it stays seated for a few seconds give it the treat and reward him verbally with a word of your choice (like 'yes' for example, this word will have to stay consistent throughout your dog's training). Now your dog is sitting you have to break the command (this is very important, remember each command has to have a beginning (sit) and an end ('ok' for example)), again use a word of your choice that you will always use for breaking commands.
Repeat the operation two, three times with a treat and then repeat without the treat just faking you have one in your end. And that's how your dog will learn how to sit. Remember these steps, they are applicable with anything you want to teach your dog: beginning of a command / reinforcement / end of command.

Train Your Dog To Stop Barking
Before we go any further I want to say that barking is natural for a dog and as a dog owner you have to understand that and let the dog bark naturally. That said, there are instances when barking has to be stopped either because it goes on for too long, is threatening somebody or any other reason when barking is undesirable. Here's a few pointers on how to train your dog do that.
Often times, the natural reaction from dog owners when their dog bark is to try to pacify the dog by cuddling him, reassuring him and so on. This is a mistake as it actually encourages the dog in its behavior. What you should do is pick a word you are going to use over and over when you want the dog to stop barking and stick to that word. The word has to be short and used in a stern voice. You can pick "no"; "stop" or whatever you like. It is important that you reward the dog for not barking straight afterwards by petting him for a bit. This is a general tip for dog owners: always reward the right behavior to help the dog understand. And that's it its as simple as that, after a while your dog should stop barking when you order him too, but please remember to let him bark from time to time.
